仓颉

I'm recently addicted to this song, 仓颉 (cāng jié) by Mayday (五月天).
I didn't really know about this song at first... it was released in their December 2011 album 第二人生 which was really good. This album skimmed on the topic of the end of the world which was said to happen in 2012. I've got this entire album in my phone and I can't seem to delete any of the songs. Yes, it's that GOOD. And you definitely have to use a pair of great surround and good bass earphones (for me it's my Sennheiser in-ears) to listen to their entire album. It will bring you to another world, especially with the songs "諾亞方舟" and "2012". So back to this song, upon closer look at the lyrics, I realised that this song is actually super meaningful.

There's this thing about Mayday songs that have catchy melodies and meaningful lyrics, carefully expressed by the artistic side of the Chinese language. Their songs always seem to paint a story and these stories are the most simple yet touching things that we encounter in our daily lives.

仓颉 is actually the person who created words in the Chinese legend of「倉頡造字」.
So this song is talking about the remembrance of the other party after a breakup where everything seems to remind him about the beautiful memories of their relationship. He wants the person to remember him and wishes that he can let she know the emotions he's going through or remind her about all the past happiness, be it travelling back in time or becoming 仓颉 who can create a language/words that reminds her about him (or just the focus on the power of creation).

The beauty and subtle meanings of of the Chinese expressions used in the lyrics here are so difficult to explain and translate using the English language... Let's just put on our headphones and enjoy the song. (:
